Strong Chicken Community Presence at Wicomico County Planning Commission Meeting

The Wicomico County, Maryland Planning Commission on June 9th held a public hearing on proposed changes to the county zoning ordinance related to the construction of chicken houses. A large contingent of persons in the local chicken community showed up to support the recommendations from the Wicomico Council. A number of persons explained why the chicken industry is important to the county and why creating too harsh a set of regulations would be harmful to the chicken industry. Some critics or opponents of the chicken industry shared misinformation about the chicken industry. The Planning Commission took the comments under advisement and will forward its recommendations to the County Council at a later date.

The meeting marked the introduction of the new DPI-issued badges in support of the chicken community.
